Addressing Pain through Yoga
With Fez Aswat
8 Thursdays | 9/28-11/16
“We may not be able to make sense of our suffering, but we can learn to make meaning from it. If we’ve seen difficulty, and not just survived, but gone on to heal and connect deeply with the experience of being a person that can love and care for others, then we are given a unique perspective that can allow us to help others who are in the midst of difficulty. We can learn to be with them with compassion and empathy and explore if they may benefit from the practice as well. There is nothing more meaningful than showing up and caring.” - Fez Aswat
Like many people, I came to yoga to heal. I began meditating to help me through a challenging emotional time and I went to my first yoga class to see if it could help with chronic pain in my body. After half a year of physically therapy with no change, I was absolutely shocked to discover that only 3 yoga classes had relieved those symptoms for good.
While I got "better" at expressing the yoga poses, I was still desperate to know why it worked. After over a decade of study with my teacher, Tom Alden, I have gained the understanding and skills necessary to use postural yoga practice as a pallet to explore, adjust and heal my body from injuries and illness.
This 8 class series in 8 weeks will incorporate principles for healing with intuitive, experiential exploration. We will build on familiar Bow St. Yoga themes to clarify how yoga postures with clear understanding can effectively serve to support physical health, and well being.
Individual drop-ins are not available for this series!
